January 1, MLW World Title Changes Hands as New Faces Shake Up Roster

Wyatt’s Take
- Josh Bishop’s gutsy win over Killer Kross proves hard work and grit still pay off in the ring.
- Tessa Blanchard’s debut shows the women’s division is getting tougher and more competitive.
- Austin Aries outlasts Matt Riddle in a match that proves experience beats flash.
Major League Wrestling kicked off its pay-per-view season with Saturday Night SuperFight at Cicero Stadium in Chicago. The card delivered on the company’s promise to “Choose Violence.”
The main event saw Josh Bishop dethrone Killer Kross for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship in a brutal Last Man Standing match. Bishop, already bleeding heavily, drove Kross through a table and kicked away his support chair to seal the victory.
Bishop’s win marks a new chapter for the promotion heading into 2027. He entered the year as an underdog and left the arena as champion.
“Austin Aries and Matt Riddle stole the show,” wrote the original report, highlighting their National Openweight Championship clash that ended in a time-limit draw. Riddle knocked Aries out cold after the bell, but Aries kept his title.
Tessa Blanchard made her MLW debut against Keyra and wasted no time making an impact. She finished the match with a thrust kick and DDT, then declared she was coming for the women’s division.
Shotzi Blackheart currently holds the MLW Women’s World Championship, but Blanchard made it clear the competition just got fiercer. Scarlett Bordeaux, Zamaya, and Masha round out the women’s roster looking to climb the ranks.
Trevor Lee took on IWGP Heavyweight Champion Yota Tsuji in a showcase match. Lee landed multiple high-impact moves but ultimately fell to Tsuji’s Gene Blaster spear. The loss didn’t diminish Lee’s standing as a top-tier competitor.
Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows retained the MLW Tag Team Championship in a Chicago Street Fight against Mark Coffey and Joe Coffey. Masha defeated Zamaya in singles action, and Ultimo Guerrero won a triple-threat match against Templario and Titan.
Wyatt Matters
Hard work, grit, and old-fashioned toughness still win the day in sports and in life. Middle America respects athletes who earn their victories the right way and refuse to back down when the going gets rough.
