Wyatt’s Take

  • Most Americans don’t put climate change at the top of their list.
  • Poll numbers have barely budged in nearly 40 years.
  • Big names like Bill Gates aren’t changing many minds.

According to recent polling, only a sliver of folks in the U.S. see climate change as a top concern as we head toward the 2026 elections. The percentage of people who say they are very worried about climate change remains low and steady over decades.

CNN’s data expert Harry Enten says the climate narrative pushed by elites just hasn’t caught on with most Americans. He points out that the share of folks “greatly worried” about climate change is basically unchanged since 1989.

Only two percent think it’s the nation’s top problem. Even with constant talk and celebrity push, most people’s views haven’t shifted much.
