Courtney Boose, 41, has been arrested nearly 100 times in Indianapolis but never sent to state prison. After he allegedly stabbed a 69-year-old man at a gas station, his charge was slashed from attempted murder to aggravated battery.

Boose’s record goes back to 2002, with felonies and misdemeanors mostly tied to theft, trespassing, and drugs. His cases have almost always ended with dismissed charges or quick deals, keeping him on the street.

Police say Boose tried to run from arrest after the stabbing and fought officers, leading them to use a Taser. When put in the squad car, he reportedly tried to headbutt a cop.

Rick Snyder from the Fraternal Order of Police said,

“That means this case, without even taking its first breath in the court system, has automatically been downgraded and reduced, cutting the possible sentencing range from an attempted murder at 20 to 40 years of imprisonment, all the way down to three years to 16 years.”

Despite 99 arrests—some felonies, some misdemeanors—Boose has never gone beyond county jail. Cops say the system’s soft approach is letting dangerous people keep coming back.

Snyder also warned,

“The daily headlines show that mass shootings, mass murders and mass carnage keep going up. This shows the devaluing of the sanctity of life here in our capital city.”

Boose is now held at Marion County Jail with a $50,000 bond.

If you’re tired of repeat criminals walking free, let your lawmakers know it’s time for real justice.
