  • Shots fired after law enforcement confronted armed suspect
  • National Guard and special operations deployed for security

Federal agents in the Broadview area near Chicago were attacked and boxed in by ten vehicles Saturday morning, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

One of the drivers reportedly exited with a semi-automatic weapon, forcing agents to fire defensive shots.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said officers

“were unable to move their vehicles and exited the car. One of the drivers who rammed the law enforcement vehicle was armed with a semi-automatic weapon.”

McLaughlin went on

“Law enforcement was forced to deploy their weapons and fire defensive shots at an armed US citizen who drove herself to the hospital to get care for wounds.”

According to authorities, the woman involved had been named in a Customs and Border Protection bulletin the week prior for allegedly targeting federal agents online and urging harm against them.

“Thankfully, no law enforcement officers were seriously injured in this attack.”

McLaughlin said.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller called the incident

“domestic terrorism and seditious insurrection.”

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem posted

“Today in Chicago, members of our brave law enforcement were attacked—rammed and boxed in by ten vehicles, including an attacker with a semi-automatic weapon. I am deploying more special operations to control the scene.”

“Reinforcements are on their way.”

The Chicago Fire Department confirmed a woman was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound, with her condition listed as stable.

Officials said two people have been taken into custody connected to the confrontation, but did not clarify if the armed woman was one of them.

Governor J.B. Pritzker criticized the move to federalize 300 members of the Illinois National Guard for Chicago following the incident.

He called it

“outrageous and un-American”

to demand a governor send military personnel within the state’s own borders.
