Conservative figure Charlie Kirk was shot while attending an event in Utah.
President Trump expressed deep sorrow for Kirk’s family, praising Kirk’s impact on America’s youth.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump said Wednesday. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Trump also called Kirk a “great guy” and told supporters to pray for him after the news broke.
“We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” Trump posted online Wednesday afternoon.
Kirk was set to speak at Utah Valley University as part of his American Comeback Tour when he was shot.
Kirk’s spokesperson confirmed the shooting and stated his condition was initially unknown.
Support from officials like Vice President JD Vance, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Attorney General Pam Bondi flooded social media as news spread.
“Dear God, protect Charlie in his darkest hour,” Vance wrote alongside a photo with Kirk.
“Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father,” Vance posted earlier.
“We are closely monitoring reports of the tragic shooting involving Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Our thoughts are with Charlie, his loved ones, and everyone affected. Agents will be on the scene quickly and the FBI stands in full support of the ongoing response and investigation,” Patel stated online.
Attorney General Bondi added, “FBI and ATF agents are on the scene. PRAY FOR CHARLIE.”
The White House stated that officials were closely following the situation and working with Utah authorities.
Kirk founded Turning Point USA to promote conservative ideas to young Americans, especially on college campuses. He was a frequent ally to Trump, even joining a White House event just weeks ago.
