January 1, Historic Painting Returns to Merchant Marine Academy

Hey there, folks! I’ve got some exciting news to share with you all. Our Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, is making a big change that folks at the Merchant Marine Academy have been waiting for. He’s bringing back a beautiful and historic painting of Jesus to where it belongs!

You see, there was this painting called “Christ on the Water,” which shows Jesus helping sailors. It’s been a part of the Academy for almost 80 years. But then, the Biden administration moved it down to the basement because someone complained. They thought it shouldn’t be out in the open. Well, a lot of people weren’t too happy about that.

Secretary Duffy said, “We’re moving Jesus out of the basement!” And he’s right! This painting means a lot to the midshipmen and to America’s history. Duffy worked with the Academy to make this happen, and he’s announced that the painting will be going back to its rightful place of honor.

The artist, Hunter Wood, made this painting way back in 1944 during World War II. He joined the Coast Guard right after Pearl Harbor. His painting shows the bravery and faith of that generation. It was in a special room, the Elliot See Room, since 1947. That’s where it’s going back now.

Some folks, like this guy Mikey Weinstein, aren’t too happy about it. He’s making a fuss and saying it goes against the Constitution. But, good ol’ Senator Ted Cruz from Texas stepped in and backed up Duffy, saying there’s no reason to keep this piece of our heritage tucked away.

So, we’re bringing back our history, celebrating our faith, and honoring those who served! Let’s cheer for getting Jesus back to a place of prominence and standing up for what matters, folks!
