Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he’d been informed that Russia will attack on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Zelensky’s comments come amid rising tensions between the two nations.

Russia has gathered more than 100,000 troops near its border with Ukraine, causing concerns among the Western allies that Moscow is planning an invasion.

Zelensky wrote that Ukraine will hold a Day of Unity on Wednesday.

“We are told that February 16 will be the day of the attack,” he said.

On Saturday, President Joe Biden spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying that “swift and severe costs” would follow if Moscow invaded Ukraine.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Monday that the US was closing its embassy in Kyiv.

“We are in the process of temporarily relocating our Embassy operations in Ukraine from our Embassy in Kyiv to Lviv due to the dramatic acceleration in the buildup of Russian forces,” Blinken said in a statement.

“These prudent precautions in no way undermine our support for or our commitment to Ukraine. Our commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering,” he added.

“The path for diplomacy remains available if Russia chooses to engage in good faith. We look forward to returning our staff to the Embassy as soon as conditions permit.”
