Wyatt’s Take

  • NBA makes history with first Israeli All-Star
  • Spike Lee goes for protest, not celebration
  • Spotlight shifts from achievement to division

History was made at the NBA All-Star Game as Deni Avdija became the first Israeli-born player to suit up for the event.

Avdija played strong for Team Stars, honoring his homeland by wearing the Israeli flag on his jersey.

“I feel like when I come to play, I come with the entire nation,” Avdija said.

His performance put him alongside league greats with an impressive 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists per game this season.

While fans watched Avdija reach new heights, Spike Lee took a very different stage.

The filmmaker showed up courtside in clothes supporting a pro-Palestinian message, clearly aiming for headlines of his own.

It’s not the first time Lee has stirred controversy over these topics—he previously defended himself over accusations of antisemitism back in 1990 and faced backlash for his handling of conspiracy theories in a 2021 documentary.

On a night meant for celebrating basketball and unity, Lee’s move reminded everyone that some care more about picking fights than honoring hard work and real progress.

Wyatt Matters

Moments like these show how loud voices can block out pride in honest, hard-won success. Middle Americans believe in cheering for achievement and pushing past politics. We know respect means acknowledging real effort, not just making noise.
