Wyatt’s Take

  • White House official and CNN host heatedly debated mass shooting causes.
  • Discussion centered on data about transgender shooters and school attack motives.
  • The argument shows deep disagreements on what drives violence in America.

Tensions ran high on live TV as the Biden administration’s counterterror boss, Sebastian Gorka, and CNN’s Brianna Keilar sparred over the motives behind mass shootings. Gorka insisted some of these attacks specifically targeted Christians and Catholics, and pointed to recent cases where he says ideology played a central role.

“We have the videos, we have the statements from the dead shooter that were clearly anti-Christian. Just as with the transgender attack on the Nashville Christian school in which more children were killed, there is an ideological connection to multiple of these attacks, where innocent children, especially Christians and Catholics, are targeted and that is very, very disturbing.”

Keilar pressed Gorka, challenging him to address broader data. She cited a Secret Service review which found most mass shooters were not transgender. Gorka accused her of mixing up data and ignoring different root causes. He said most gun violence is related to gangs, not ideology, and wanted the focus kept on ideologically motivated attacks on Christian schools.

Gorka pushed back on CNN’s numbers and questioned the network’s credibility, insisting his tally of shootings involving transgender attackers was accurate. “I’m going to stick with the facts, and not CNN’s pseudo-facts.” The debate turned personal as both accused the other of distorting facts and having an agenda, highlighting how divided leaders are over what truly fuels mass shootings in the country.
