January 1, Unbelievable! Woman Outsmarts System for Massive Fuel Heist

In an unexpected turn of events, a 45-year-old woman named Dawn Thompson has found herself facing legal repercussions after allegedly exploiting a software glitch at a local gas station. Thompson has been charged with theft by unlawful taking of over $5,000. This charge is a result of Thompson allegedly participating in a fuel scam that allowed her to pump over $27,000 worth of gas without paying a single cent.

This unusual incident occurred at the Pump and Pantry in Lincoln, Nebraska. The gas station’s fuel pumps underwent a software update in November 2022, which unfortunately left the machines susceptible to theft by rewards card holders.

The police investigation revealed a simple, yet effective, exploit. Customers merely had to swipe their rewards card twice to activate a “demo mode” on the pump. This mode allowed them to pump as much gas as they wanted, free of charge.

Thompson’s alleged repeated use of her card did not go unnoticed. Loss prevention managers at Bosselman Enterprise noticed the unusual activity. The police were quickly able to track Thompson and confirm her alleged frequent thefts through surveillance footage.

Between approximately November 13, 2022, and June 1, 2023, Thompson’s rewards card was allegedly used an astonishing 510 times. This often meant multiple uses in a single day. Thompson is also accused of sharing her rewards card with another woman, charging her around $500 for $700 worth of “free” gas.

Thompson’s alleged free ride came to an end when she was arrested on March 6 and arraigned the following day. This concluded an investigation that had been ongoing since October 2023.

A theft is a theft, no matter what is taken, or how often. This woman should be forced to pay all back what she stole. Due to the repeated thefts and the high volume, 30 days in jail would be a wake up call, not only to her, but to others who might be tempted.

30 days is unacceptable. She should get 30 years with a trans woman for her cellmate.
