January 1, Supreme Court may reinstate Boston Marathon Bomber’s death sentence
Supreme Court justices seem set to reinstate the death penalty for Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Last year, the 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston ruled that a trial judge improperly excluded evidence that could have shown Tsarnaev’s older brother influenced him. The appeals court also found fault with the judge for insufficiently vetting jurors who may have been exposed to news coverage about the bombing.
Despite President Biden’s vocal opposition to capital punishment, the Biden administration urged the high court to reinstate Tsarnaev’s death sentence.
If the lower court’s ruling were affirmed, Tsarnaev could potentially face a new sentencing trial.
