January 1, Trump Taps New Antitrust Pick, Sending A Clear Message To Big Tech

Donald Trump, our President-elect, just made a big announcement! He is picking Gail Slater, who advised future Vice President J.D. Vance on economics, to be in charge of the Antitrust Division at the Department of Justice. That’s a fancy way of saying she’ll be making sure companies play fair.

In his first term, Trump didn’t shy away from calling out Big Tech for messing around with what we see and hear online. He said they worked together to censor people and push their own ideas. Trump jumped onto Truth Social to say these big companies have been using their power to trample on the rights of everyday Americans, and even small tech companies.

President Trump proudly said, “I fought against this in my First Term, and now Gail will lead the charge to keep Big Tech accountable.”

Gail’s job will be to make sure competition rules are followed so our great companies can keep thinking up new things without unfair rules holding them back. Trump cheered, saying, “Congratulations Gail – Together, we will Make America Competitive Again!”

Gail knows her stuff, having worked with the National Economic Council before, and some years at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), even during Obama’s time.

Even Big Tech bosses had to admit Trump’s amazing comeback in the election. Jeff Bezos from Amazon, who also owns The Washington Post, had something to say about Trump’s big win.

Gail will be taking on some serious cases with companies that might have been playing dirty to win. Not long ago, Google got in trouble with a judge for breaking the rules by making sure its search engine was front and center on popular browsers like Apple’s Safari and Firefox.

Mike Davis from the Internet Accountability Project (IAP), who’s been cheering for Trump, is super excited about Gail’s nomination. He said she will help build a fairer economy where U.S. smarts and small businesses can grow, and where everyone gets a fair shot.

“President Trump isn’t backing down from Big Tech giants who squash competition and censor conservative voices,” Davis said. Gail is ready to be Trump’s right-hand woman in this important fight.

Last year, folks were pushing a bill to rein in Apple and Google’s hold on app markets. The bill made it through the Senate and aimed at giving app developers more freedom from Big Tech’s grip.

President Biden put Jonathan Kanter, a lawyer, in charge of the Antitrust Division in 2021. But now, it’s Gail’s turn under Trump’s leadership. Let’s make sure rules that make America strong are in place!

Wyatt Matters!

Donald Trump has chosen Gail Slater to make sure companies play fair by leading the Antitrust Division at the Department of Justice. This means she will watch over big companies, especially Big Tech, to ensure they don’t cheat or bully anyone else. Trump has always been outspoken about how these giant companies sometimes bend the rules, affecting what we see and hear online. By choosing Gail, Trump aims to hold these companies accountable, which he believes will help protect the rights of everyday Americans and smaller tech companies.

Gail’s job will be crucial because it involves making sure competition is fair. This way, all companies, big or small, can invent and create new things without being blocked by unfair practices. Trump is confident that with her help, America will become more competitive again. Gail has lots of experience, having worked with the National Economic Council and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, even when President Obama was in office, which shows she understands the ins and outs of how big businesses operate.

With Gail on board, there will be a focus on holding Big Tech accountable. Big companies like Amazon and Google have been in the spotlight for making moves that might not have kept competition fair. For example, Google was recently in trouble for making sure its search engine was always the first choice in browsers like Apple’s Safari. People like Mike Davis, from the Internet Accountability Project, believe that having Gail in this role will create a fairer economy where everybody, including small businesses, has a chance to succeed. With Gail’s leadership, the hope is to create rules that keep America strong and full of opportunities for innovation and growth.
