January 1, Test Scores Drop Families Demand Better Schools
Wyatt’s Take
- Nearly half of high school seniors can’t read or do math at a basic level.
- Most parents say schools aren’t getting the job done.
- School choice is growing as families look for solutions.
America’s latest school test scores show real trouble: almost half of seniors can’t handle basic math or reading. It’s another warning sign that the system isn’t working for most students.
Most parents don’t need test results to see problems—they already worry about what their kids are learning. A recent survey found 68% of Americans and 60% of parents say K–12 education is heading the wrong way.
A lot of families would jump to a better school if they could, but many feel stuck by rules or don’t know their options. Still, when parents do switch, they’re usually much happier with their children’s new schools.
“About half of private school parents — 49% — say they are ‘very satisfied’ with their child’s schooling experience, a whopping 17 points higher than public school parents.”
States across the country are opening up new school choice programs. This past year, enrollment in private choice programs shot up by 25%, with over 1.3 million kids now benefiting.
Study after study shows school choice helps students learn more and keeps parents satisfied. Big majorities support tools like education savings accounts, vouchers, and charter schools to help families find better fits.
Three-fourths of Americans say ESAs should be available to every family, not just a select few.
“This year, 83% of parents say they support education savings accounts (ESAs).”
Today’s test results should wake up leaders. Parents are ready for action—they’re already moving their kids, forming learning pods, and applying for scholarships. Our kids deserve a real shot at a brighter future, and that means letting families decide what works best for them.
Wyatt Matters
Every child deserves a school that helps them succeed, no matter where they live. Families across Middle America want a say in their children’s future, and school choice gives them that power. This is about doing right by our kids and giving our communities a fighting chance.

“Nearly half of high school seniors can’t read or do math at a basic level.”
Considering private schools, charter schools, home schoolers, etc are probably significant higher, public schools K-12 is probably about 30% that can read or do math at a basic level.

They are too busy dealing with the underprivileged & the bratty students to do anything for the smart students. Then the whole class suffers.
