Wyatt’s Take

  • The Supreme Court stepped in to pause a lower court order on Texas’ redistricting map.
  • Texas Republicans say the map helps represent real Texans, not just political interests.
  • Civil rights groups have until Monday to respond to Texas’ appeal.

The Supreme Court has put the brakes on a lower court’s decision about Texas’ congressional map. For now, the 2021 map will stay in place while the justices decide if changes should be made.

Justice Samuel Alito signed the temporary order Friday after Texas filed an emergency appeal. The pause gives the high court time to review whether the map can be used during upcoming elections.

Civil rights groups have until Monday to answer Texas’ request to put the new map on hold.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton argued that Democrats are just unhappy with losing. He stated,

“Texas engaged in partisan redistricting solely to secure more Republican seats in Congress and thereby better represent our state and Texans. For years, Democrats have aggressively gerrymandered their states and only cry foul and hurl baseless ‘racism’ accusations because they are losing.”

The decision comes as the deadline for candidates to file for congressional races approaches on December 8.

If you care about honest representation and standing up to political activists, now’s the time to watch how this fight plays out in court.

Wyatt Matters

This fight is about making sure Texans, not out-of-state interests, decide who represents them in Congress. Regular folks deserve a fair voice, and no outside group should tip the scales.
