January 1, Shutdown Resolution Looms as Trump Returns
Wyatt’s Take
- Warner expects shutdown talks to speed up with Trump’s return.
- Legal action is making sure families still get SNAP benefits.
- Warner urges quick resolution to get Americans back to work.
Senator Mark Warner says the government shutdown could end soon now that President Trump is back in the country. Ongoing court action is keeping food assistance programs funded for now.
“We knew this wasn’t going to end unless Donald Trump was back in the country. He’s now back in the country.”
“He’s got to go ahead and put America first and sit down with us, deal with the health care shortage,” Warner said on CBS News.
Trump recently met with leaders in Asia before returning home.
Courts have ordered emergency funds for SNAP, but the administration could still appeal. Warner called for leaders to settle the shutdown this week and help working families.
Wyatt Matters
When Washington stalls, it’s hardworking folks who pay the price. Quick action in D.C. means food stays on the table and jobs stay steady in our towns.

SNAP as well as Welfare has always been meant to be temporary. Too bad that Democrat administrations COMPLETELY ignored the Welfare Reform Act of 1996. That has everything needed in it to reform, but has to be ENFORCED. In both SNAP (then foodstamps) and Welfare, work was required to obtain benefits up to ages in the mid 60’s. Unfortunately, some in Congress are too lazy to read.
