January 1, Shipment containing ants, avocados, and a robot sent to space station
A shipment of ants, avocados, and a robotic arm made its way to the International Space Station, courtesy of SpaceX.
The vessel carried more than 4,800 pounds of supplies, including lemons and ice cream for the station’s seven astronauts.
The ants come from the Girl Scouts, who also sent brine shrimp and plants as test subjects.
Gitai Inc., a Japanese start-up, sent an experimental robot arm that will attempt mundane tasks normally done by the astronauts.
