January 1, Sex workers say OnlyFans’ ban on sexually explicit content will endanger their lives

OnlyFans, a subscriber-only website best-known for hosting creators of adult content, announced a ban of sexually explicit content starting in October.

“They are taking away our safe spaces,” said Jane, an activist and OnlyFans creator who wished to be identified by her first name only. “Nobody wants to protect us.”

“This change will put workers on the street who could otherwise afford rent, it will starve the children of sex workers who could otherwise afford to feed them, and it will force workers currently working remotely online into riskier street-based sex work,” said Mary Moody, a sex worker and co-chair of the Adult Industry Laborers and Artists Association.

OnlyFans issued a statement that said the changes are meant to comply with the requests of its “banking partners and payout providers.”
