Republican Senator Bill Cassidy from Louisiana is investigating New York City’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani for actions he says may put Jewish residents in danger.

Mamdani did not renew executive orders from the former mayor that protected against antisemitism and banned city officials from joining boycotts against Israel.

Cassidy wrote to Mamdani, “Strong leadership against antisemitism and discrimination is essential to the safety and security of Jewish New Yorkers.”

He highlighted that New York City’s Department of Education relies on $2.2 billion in federal funding, which depends on following civil rights laws and protecting students.

The senator said, “It is my job to ensure every student feels safe, and at a time when Jewish students feel scared, I am concerned your actions will only exacerbate their fears.”

Cassidy also stated on social media, “whatever somebody’s ideological background, if they’re in a position of responsibility, they must protect their citizens.”

Mamdani has been criticized for his anti-Israel remarks and did not denounce violent calls that threaten Jewish people.

Stay alert to what’s happening in our schools and city halls. Our leaders should stand up for every child’s safety—no matter their background.

I definitely agree. We need schools to teach our children like we were taught. Not teaching them how to protest things they know nothing about! The Texas school that let middle school students go out to protest, all of them should be held accountable. These kids have no idea what they’re protesting about!
