The Trump administration just fired a warning shot at anti-gun Democrats running America’s cities. The Department of Justice announced it’s launching an investigation into Philadelphia over massive delays in processing concealed carry permits, and it’s about time someone stood up for the Second Amendment rights of ordinary Americans.

For months, law-abiding Philadelphians have been stuck in bureaucratic limbo, waiting for permits that should be processed quickly under Pennsylvania law. Meanwhile, criminals aren’t waiting for permission slips to carry guns on the streets.

The DOJ made it clear they’re not playing games with this investigation.

“The Department will be assessing law enforcement practices,” the Justice Department stated in its announcement.

This isn’t just about paperwork delays. It’s about a fundamental constitutional right that leftist city officials have been slow-walking because they don’t like the idea of regular citizens being able to protect themselves and their families.

Philadelphia has long been run by Democrats who talk tough on crime while actually making it harder for good people to defend themselves. The permit backlog has left thousands of residents vulnerable, forced to wait months for a right that shall not be infringed.

The Trump DOJ is sending a message to every blue-city mayor and police commissioner who thinks they can ignore the Constitution. Federal law protects the right to keep and bear arms, and no amount of bureaucratic foot-dragging will change that.

Pennsylvania state law is clear about concealed carry permits, but Philadelphia officials have apparently decided their political preferences matter more than following the law. That attitude is finally catching up with them.

For working Americans who can’t afford private security or live in gated communities, a concealed carry permit isn’t a luxury.
