January 1, San Francisco’s Last Denny’s Shuts Down Amid City’s Struggles
San Francisco, once the vibrant hub of commercial activity, has bid farewell to its only Denny’s restaurant. This American diner-style icon stopped service in the Union Square area of San Francisco’s downtown early August, as reported by SFGATE.
Chris Haque, the operator of the franchised location, relayed that they served customers until the very last possible day. The establishment had enjoyed an almost quarter-century run before finally shutting down, indicating the depth of the city’s decline.
The closure owes largely to the uncontrolled and frequent instances of dine-and-dash, vandalism, and the overwhelming cost of operating a business in the city. “There’s no one to stop them”, Haque reportedly stated, reflecting on the deteriorating law and order situation.
The dwindling number of conventions, which used to boost the city’s economy significantly, also played a role in the restaurant’s downfall. Conventions in San Francisco nosedived during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there has been a minor upswing recently, with 33 events held at the Moscone Center in 2022 and 34 last year, it was clearly too late for Denny’s Union Square location.
Denny’s affirmed the closure of Haque’s San Francisco location earlier this month, refraining from divulging any specific reasons behind the decision. Notably, a vast majority of Denny’s global chain is franchised.
The company expressed its gratitude towards the local community and team members, emphasizing the difficulty in closing a location. “Denny’s loves San Francisco and the Bay area”, reiterated the company, signaling a bittersweet departure.
Despite this setback, Denny’s has a remaining location in South San Francisco and 40 other outlets in the San Francisco/Oakland/San Jose market.
The area where the now-closed Denny’s was situated, Union Square, has been significantly impacted by the pandemic, with several companies shifting to remote work, and footfall decreasing considerably. Other parts of the city have also experienced similar challenges.
Meanwhile, San Francisco’s Mayor, London Breed, has introduced initiatives with the aim of reviving the downtown economy, though the efficacy of these measures remains to be seen.

Between Nancy Pelosi and Kamala Harris, the democrats have run this once thriving city into the ground. The common criminals have taken over the streets and help themselves to whatever they want, with no worries of being held responsible for their actions! The article mentions low foot traffic as one of the reasons for closing. The fact is the streets are dangerous to be walking around on. People are being assaulted, robbed, and beaten by this sanctuary city scum that allows defunding of the police, breaking, entering and stealing goods from dept. stores and restaurants with no criminal charges being brought against these hoodlums. Who in their right mind would want these politicians running this country?

The bottom feeder Gavin Newsom has just imposed new laws and shoplifting and car theft. What a two face low life. When he came into office in 2019 he made California a salutary state dismembered the police and razed wage entitlements to workers in the fast food to a point that most restaurants are going out of business,with no break with lower pay while training for new employees and most of all he allowed 950.00 in shoplifting with NO arrest knowing exactly what it was going to do. Newsom has destroyed every aspect of California in the way of the alignment with DC rules of communism. Well this snake just like all the Democrat party of total NWO takeover of new utopia of NOTHING! I don’t understand it why people want to cut off their nose to spite the their face. His big boy proposal,8/17/24,of trying to get the phone to stop ringing about HIS mess.
