January 1, Royal Cash Flows Running Dry For Now
Wyatt’s Take
- Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal looks dead in the water
- Most folks aren’t buying what the couple keeps selling
- The pair’s obsession with family drama is wearing thin
One British broadcaster said their “star attraction has taken a nose dive.” The truth is, Americans and Brits both got tired of all the drama and attacks on the royal family. As another commentator put it, “They trashed their family, created a huge amount of damage and monetized off of the back of the attacks.” Those are strong words, but they’re not wrong—the public isn’t interested in endless whiny complaining.
While their initial docuseries drew in viewers, nothing they’ve done since has gotten much attention. Series like “With Love, Meghan” and “Heart of Invictus” barely made a dent. Folks flipped on the first show just to gawk at the mudslinging, but once the shock value was over, the numbers tanked. As one expert put it plainly, “Public fascination was merely driven by the controversy and inside royal details being spewed, but neither H nor M themselves have proven to be of interest… Their betrayal of their own family was tasteless and tacky.”
Without that Netflix money, life could get a little less cushy for these ex-royals. There’s talk they might even try moving back to the UK if things get lean. “They obviously have a lavish lifestyle, and it was always thought that Netflix saw the duo as the jewel in the crown for their platform,” a royal expert noted. “Meghan has become the Harry Houdini in sorting out financial safety,” but even magic tricks don’t pay the bills for long.
Meanwhile, Meghan’s new “As Ever” lifestyle brand keeps selling out its high-priced candles and jam. Some wonder if that’s enough to keep the couple flush, especially since their shows can’t draw a crowd. The only reason Netflix might keep them around is to get a cut of her brand’s action, according to yet another commentator who said, “her much-touted cookery series had been almost totally ignored by viewers.”
It’s clear the couple was warned that making a series about “elitist” stuff like polo wasn’t a great idea. “Heart of Invictus” was called “worthy,” but it didn’t bring in viewers. The public just isn’t interested in programs that don’t speak to the struggles of regular people.
With Spotify having dropped their partnership and no big podcast projects in the works, the Sussexes are betting everything on Meghan’s new business. That leaves Prince Harry pretty much with nothing to do, according to experts. “Without the reported $100 million contract with Netflix, having been dropped by Spotify and with no plans to do further podcasts… the Sussexes hopes rest on Meghan making a success of As Ever. This leaves Harry with little to do.”
Wyatt Matters
This is what happens when you turn your back on family and faith for the promise of fame and fortune. Middle America knows family values matter more than TV deals. Hard work, loyalty, and honesty always outshine flashy drama, and regular folks can spot phony self-pity a mile away. Maybe this will be a wake-up call for the royals—and a reminder for all of us to stay true to our roots, not Hollywood’s latest fad.
