January 1, Road Rage Rampage: Colorado Deputy On Leave Following Brawl with Teenager

Published

In what is being termed as a severe violation of the trust placed in law enforcement officials, Lt. Henry Trujillo of the Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado was captured on camera involved in an all-out fistfight with a 16-year-old motorcyclist.

The incident, which occurred on June 18, has led to Trujillo being placed on administrative leave without pay.

The video footage, unveiled on Tuesday, is from an alleged road-rage dispute that transpired on Santa Fe Trail Drive.

According to the official police report, the teenager stopped at the side of the road, with Trujillo immediately following suit and stepping out of his Buick.

The police reported that Trujillo proceeded to “aggressively” approach the teenager, hurling expletives in a confrontational manner.

The situation escalated rapidly into a physical fight when the teenager threw a punch at Trujillo.

While Trujillo insists the teenager initiated the physical conflict by shoving him first, the teenager alleges it was the officer who landed the first punch.

In a statement released by the Mehr Law Group representing the teenager, his father declared, “There is no excuse for this kind of behavior from an adult who was also an officer of the law… it’s very frustrating that my son had to go through this and was put in danger from someone who doesn’t uphold the law and thinks he can do what he pleases.”

However, this is not the first instance of Trujillo running afoul of the law.

The officer was already on leave and facing misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct for reportedly tasing a man 35 times during a traffic stop last year.

Las Animas County court records reveal a troubling history for Trujillo. He was convicted in 1998, 2006, and 2009 for harassment, fighting in public, and disorderly conduct.

Despite being forced to resign from the sheriff’s office in 2009, he was rehired and promoted.

The Mehr Law Group’s statement highlights the severity of the recent incident, noting, “This is a terrifying display of violence, in public, by the lieutenant of LACSO…This behavior is completely unacceptable and the longer the sheriff’s office and district attorney refuse to put a stop to it, the more they put the rest of us at risk.”

The Las Animas County Sheriff’s Office refrained from commenting on the case, noting the Trinidad Police Department is independently investigating the incident.

A representative for Trujillo could not be immediately reached for comment.

There’s no accountability and no one is supposed to be above the law more so the ones that swore to uphold it to protect and serve the people. Too much power with no accountability.

We had a similar situation when a crazy policeman threatened a young motorist with a bullet in his head for a simple traffic stop. This was the policemans third threat to people in our city. He was animmediately fired! It was long overdue!

This is what happens when you hire incompitent people who carry a gun. Offices lower the standards to allow idiots to pass a test a ten year old could pass. This is the result of affirmative action, people like me Mr. Whiteboy can’t get hired just because we’re white, then the imbeciles that are too dumb to pass get hired and this is what you end up with. It is Colorado, liberal state extraordinaire. Get rid of the left and you’ll solve all your problems!

If Trujillo’s record is accurate, as reported here, then he IS long overdue for permanent suspension. The best possible thing that could happen, would be HIS arrest and court appearance, where he should be ORDERED to take anger management classes, OR face years of confinement. If he is married, or has a girlfriend, then someone should be asking them some serious questions.
I have the utmost respect for our law enforcement, but there are some “bad apples” that need to be removed PRONTO!!
