House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) became the subject of mockery for reading a poem she said was written by U2 frontman Bono as a tribute to the people of Ukraine, which critics quickly described as “cringe.”

“Ireland’s sorrow and pain, Is now the Ukraine, and Saint Patrick’s name now Zelensky,” Pelosi said at a St. Patrick’s Day event.

“I need a Guinness to wash down the cringe,” Washington Free Beacon reporter Chuck Ross wrote on Twitter.

“Is this a prank?” wrote Federalist publisher Ben Domenech. “Did someone pretend to be Bono and sent her this?”

“Extraordinary levels of Irish cringe,” New York Times journalist Liam Stack tweeted. “This poem brought the snakes back.”

Writer Gabriella Hoffman tweeted: “I wholeheartedly support Ukraine. This, however, is not the right gesture at all. Very cringeworthy. Make it stop!”
