Wyatt’s Take

  • Schools are hiding gender decisions from parents.
  • Kids are encouraged to change names and pronouns at school.
  • Parents’ rights are being ignored by some districts.

Across America, many schools are making choices about kids’ gender identities without telling parents. Children are being asked to pick new names and pronouns, and all of this can happen behind their families’ backs.

Some school leaders feel it’s safer for children to trust teachers instead of their own families.

As one superintendent said:

“School is their only safe place, and that safety evaporates when they leave the confines of our buildings.”

There have been cases in Iowa and Florida where parents were kept in the dark while schools helped seventh graders change their gender at school. Officials sometimes claim parents could be a danger to their own children if they knew about these decisions.

Other districts punish students for using biological pronouns or keep secrets about kids’ identities, even from caring moms and dads. In Ohio, using the wrong pronoun could be called “discriminatory harassment.”

Some children with challenges like autism or anxiety have been pushed toward gender changes by school officials, who then cover it up from their parents. In Michigan and New Jersey, girls dealing with loss or mental struggles were guided to take on new identities at school without their families ever knowing.

One Wisconsin district requires parents to sign off for basic medicine but secretly lets teachers help kids switch identities.

A classroom sign even read:

“If your parents aren’t accepting of your identity I’m your mom now #freemomhugs.”

Stories out of Massachusetts, New York, and Colorado show school staff using alternative names and pronouns for young girls battling depression and anxiety. Some were sent messages encouraging more talks about gender, and were even offered prizes for announcing new identities in school clubs.

One Colorado student, after a lecture at an art club, left that meeting questioning her identity when she’d never thought about such things before.

Another tried to harm herself after hearing teachers claim transgender kids are more likely to be in crisis.

These secrets and pressures leave children confused and feeling alone.

The Federal Trade Commission is now investigating medical gender practices and is being asked to look into school policies, too. Kids’ health and family trust should come before social experiments pushed in the classroom.

Let’s bring parents back into the picture—because it’s their responsibility and right to guide and protect their children.
