Wyatt’s Take

  • Canadian nurse Amy Hamm got hit with a huge fine and license suspension just for saying men are men.
  • The regulator says she ‘risked harm,’ even though nobody claimed to be a victim.
  • This case has fired up Conservative voices and could fuel a comeback against liberal policies.

Amy Hamm, a nurse and single mother from Vancouver, was suspended for a month and fined over $93,000 by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives. Her offense was talking openly online and displaying a billboard supporting J.K. Rowling’s stance on biological sex.

The regulator claims her comments about biological realities were ‘discriminatory,’ yet no patients or individuals said they were harmed. The hefty penalty is based on ‘potential risk,’ not any complaints.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre, fresh off a by-election win, did not mention Hamm’s punishment in his victory speech but later blasted the decision online.

“This is authoritarian censorship,”

he posted, calling out the ongoing threats to free speech in the country.

Hamm’s case is now seen by many as a symbol of Canada’s drift away from common-sense values. Even U.K. commentators are watching, calling Hamm’s punishment a warning sign of how far things have gone.

Other Conservative lawmakers say free speech for professionals is at risk, with lawmakers like Leslyn Lewis asking if doctors and nurses can even be honest about biological truths anymore. Hamm has filed appeals and is getting legal help from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms.

The College defended their penalty, saying previous discipline and online behavior made the suspension necessary. Hamm argued for a lighter reprimand, noting she’s a single mom who’s been out of work for months, but the College brushed off her hardship. There was still no sign of a direct victim.

The tribunal also recently punished another former nurse with a $10,000 fine for expressing concerns to a transgender friend, underlining how tightly speech is being policed.

Fighting back, Hamm has appealed and filed complaints for wrongful suspension and firing. Her story highlights the battle over truth, speech, and basic rights facing everyday Canadians.

Wyatt Matters

When a working mom loses her career for speaking plain facts, the threat to regular folks is clear. Everyday people should be able to speak the truth and raise their kids without fear from woke authorities. This isn’t just about one nurse—it’s about whether folks in Middle America and across free nations will get to live by common sense, not political control.
