NBCUniversal is doling out a big payday to get Rachel Maddow to stay home more.

Last month, the liberal TV host was reportedly considering leaving the show to start her own venture. However, information leaked that she decided to sign a new contract with MSNBC.

According to sources familiar with the situation, Maddow accepted an offer of $30 million per year to stay with MSNBC through the 2024 election.

However, Maddow’s long-running nightly show will end next year. Instead, she will host a weekly program set to air about 30 weeks out of the year.

Officials say that the new deal affords NBCUniversal more time to figure out an eventual replacement for Maddow.

“I don’t think they have any clue what they are going to do when she leaves,” a person close to the situation told The Daily Beast.
