January 1, Medicaid Double Payments Scandal Exposes Massive Waste

Published

on

Wow, folks, here’s a big story about how taxpayer money has been wasted—over $4.3 billion! That’s right, some of the biggest insurance companies got paid twice for the same Medicaid patients. These companies, like Centene, Elevance Health, and UnitedHealth Group, received hundreds of millions of dollars each because people weren’t removed from Medicaid rolls when they moved to a new state.

Between 2019 and 2021, around 660,000 patients each year were part of these duplicate payments. Centene took in $620 million, Elevance got $346 million, and UnitedHealth Group collected $298 million. This is a huge problem, and even Elon Musk, who helps out President Trump, is on it. He’s working hard to cut down on government waste and make sure our money is spent right.

When people moved to a new state, they should have been taken off the Medicaid list in the old state. But after the COVID pandemic, the government made it harder to do that. In 2019, these double payments cost $814 million, but by 2021, that number more than doubled to $2.1 billion!

A spokeswoman says the federal government is the only one that can really see what’s going wrong with all the paperwork. But don’t worry, the people Musk is working with—what they call the DOGE team—are on it. They’re fixing this waste and making sure our money doesn’t just disappear like that.

It’s time to end the waste and spend our taxpayer money wisely. Musk and Trump’s team are making sure of it, checking out what’s happening at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, where some say a lot of money is not used right. Let’s keep our eyes open and make sure this gets fixed!

Wyatt Matters!

It is really important for our government to use money wisely to help people. Right now, there’s a problem because companies like Centene and UnitedHealth Group got paid extra money, almost $4.3 billion, without needing it. This is because when people moved to a new state, they weren’t taken off Medicaid in the old state. This mix-up cost us a lot of money that could have been used to help more people.

Even big names like Elon Musk are concerned about this problem and want to help. They are working hard to stop this waste by checking how money is spent in government programs like Medicaid. The pandemic made it more difficult to keep track of who should be on the rolls, but now efforts are underway to fix it. This is a big step toward making sure taxpayer money is used to help those who really need it.

Everyone who pays taxes should care about this. Our government needs to work better so that when people pay their taxes, they know the money is going to the right place. By fixing these mistakes, we can make sure people who really need help get it, and we don’t waste money paying for things twice. Let’s make sure the money goes to improving health care for all and not just filling the pockets of big companies.

OK, there is a paper trail so….the responsible insurance companies absolutely need to pay the government back, the IRS forces repayment with massive interest, Soc. Sec. has forced repayment/withheld funds from individuals in recent times…there is no difference other than these massive corporations shifting blame…I’m not a medicaid recipient so I’m not aware but, solid guess, they ‘use’ your social sec. # as a verification/tracking method = individuals hold responsibility for assuring transfer as well. If you move out of state, it’s your own responsibility to obtain paperwork that indicates that you are off of one state and eligible for medicaid in another state. Resposibility and a Accountability; perhaps I am more aware because I have been responsible and accountable for all of my housing, food, transportation, insurance, education, loans, medical, dental, mental health benefits for nearly 5 decades ? I am not eligible for ANY government assistance because I worked too much, my bad. BTW, being single in this economy sucks, I’ve survived cancer twice (during covid, Stage 3 and Stage 4 both mets)…I have medical debt to deal with on top of the economy !

Right there with you Katherine! I worked from age 16 to 67. SSI is a joke, although I am grateful for the benefits I do receive. I would like to total up all that I “contributed” (mandatory) but I think it would probally make me sick to see the actual numbers. I am thinking I need to go back to work part time.

Everyone who get Social Security get all FICA taxes paid during work, back in just 7 to 10 years. I & my employers paid in $88,000 inflation adjusted to 2018 dollars the year I started SS benefits at 62. Now 69 and I have collected $125,000 so far.

Get that money back that the democrats have take and their bias judges allowed. District Judge is just that, they are not called National Judges, International Judges, Presidential control Judges. Illegal overseeing Judges. What is the job definition of district judges? Well it’s not to write laws, but too interpret existing law, not too attack article two or override the President’s office, or decide how they will decide to piss away our tax dollars. Time to hold these 700 district judges who hold no elected office, or powers extended to them by the tax payers they should return for a course on Constitutional laws pass that course or hang up their robes.

My boyfriend works for one of these companies and his job is to find this and fix it. A lot of the problem is the complexity of the billing and coding systems and providers trying to find ways to “beat” it to their benefit. Why is there so much greed? We need a more simple and fair system.
