Wyatt’s Take

  • Maryland’s lone Republican seat is under threat from new redistricting plans.
  • Republicans plan a legal fight to protect representation.
  • State leaders call out the process as political theater.

Maryland Republicans are gearing up for a legal showdown as the only GOP seat in the House faces being erased by new district maps. Democrat Governor Wes Moore has set up a commission to redraw the lines, raising concerns among conservatives about fair representation.

Moore says his administration wants “fair and representative maps.” But former Governor Larry Hogan called the commission a “cancer on our democracy” and many on the right see it as a move to sideline their voice.

Del. Kathy Szeliga is ready to get back in the legal ring, working with teams that took Maryland’s district fight to court before. “We haven’t signed any papers, but we’ve got it teed up to go right back to the Supreme Court,” she said.

She also called the commission “theatrical” and said it doesn’t genuinely serve regular Marylanders. With Democrats gaining in other states through redistricting, Republicans in Maryland see this as a fight to keep a seat at the table.

Keep your eye on this battle—it’s a reminder that fair maps mean real voices for real folks.
