Wyatt’s Take

  • Wall Street hit new record highs after the US and China made a deal framework.
  • Farmers may see more soybean sales if this trade news holds up.
  • This move could help job security and savings for Main Street folks.

The stock market finished strong on Monday with the S&P 500 closing at 6,875.16 for the first time above 6,800 points. The Nasdaq ended at 23,637.46 and the Dow Jones added 337.47 points to settle at 47,544.59.

This rise came right after word broke that the US and China had agreed on a key outline for trade, with leaders set to meet in South Korea soon.

“I think we’ve reached a substantial framework for the two leaders who will meet in Korea next Thursday,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told ABC News from Malaysia.

The Treasury Secretary also shared that President Trump threatened strong tariffs on China if they restricted rare earth exports, and that helped get talks moving.

Bessent explained there may soon be relief for America’s soybean farmers, who have lost business during the trade fight. China buys over half of the US’s soybean exports in recent years.

“I believe, when the announcement of the deal with China is made public, that our soybean farmers will feel very good about what’s going on, both for this season and the coming seasons, for several years,” Bessent said.

Keep an eye on the markets, your retirement accounts, and news about the trade deal that could impact jobs and farm sales in the heartland.
