January 1, Marine Family Hit With Threats After Court Error

Wyatt’s Take

  • A U.S. Marine staff sergeant and his family got served with a lawsuit meant for someone else in a Cornell rape case, then started getting threats.
  • Instead of fixing the mistake, the system left a military family exposed to danger and fear.
  • Real Americans expect the courts to protect the innocent, not hand them over to mobs.

Victoria Ingalls answered a knock on her door in New York and was handed a legal document that named her husband in a gang rape lawsuit at Cornell University.

The document was never meant for him.

“I have a husband who is a staff sergeant in the Marines,” Ingalls said. “He is not a part of this.”

Her husband was on deployment when the wrong papers landed at their home. Within days the family started receiving threats over the phone and online.

The case involves an alleged 2024 gang rape at Cornell University. Court records show the lawsuit was supposed to go to another man who shares the same name.

Local police have been notified. So far no one has stepped in to correct the public record or stop the threats aimed at the wrong household.

“They have the wrong person,” Ingalls added. “My husband was not there.”

The mistake has already cost the family peace of mind while the Marine serves his country overseas.

Wyatt Matters

When our men and women in uniform come home they should not have to fight off false accusations created by sloppy paperwork. Middle America expects the justice system to get names right and protect the innocent first.
