Wyatt’s Take

  • Maduro danced and mocked America, thinking Trump was all talk.
  • Trump sent troops and warships, leading to Maduro’s shock arrest.
  • The U.S. now has a tight hold on Venezuela’s oil and future leadership.

Venezuela’s dictator Nicolás Maduro enjoyed taunting the U.S., thinking President Trump wouldn’t follow through. When Maduro brushed off warnings, Trump saw it as a final insult and got serious about removing him.

In December, the U.S. offered Maduro a comfy exile in Turkey, but he turned it down. He was soon arrested by U.S. Special Forces and flown to New York to face drug trafficking charges.

Maduro will stand before a Manhattan court soon. He and his wife are both locked up in Brooklyn.

The U.S. is sticking to heavy sanctions and close control over Venezuela’s oil to stay in charge. Maduro’s vice president has stepped in as the interim leader after a court order.

Trump’s team isn’t too impressed with the biggest opposition leader. They tried talks, but didn’t see enough support to trust Venezuela’s stability after Maduro left.

Trump had troops and warships ready near Venezuela for months, with the mission planned down to the minute. Weather delays held up the launch, but when it finally happened, explosions rocked Caracas as cover for U.S. troops grabbing Maduro. The mission took five hours—no Americans were hurt, and Maduro landed in New York that night.

America’s strength made the difference when tough talk wasn’t enough. It’s a lesson in standing your ground.
