Wyatt’s Take

  • Venezuela’s captured leader, Nicolas Maduro, arrives in New York for U.S. court.
  • Maduro faces heavy drug trafficking and weapons charges.
  • His lawyers claim illegal arrest, but U.S. recognition is denied.

Nicolas Maduro, caught by U.S. special forces, now waits in a Brooklyn jail to face narco-terrorism and weapons charges in New York federal court.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said, “Maduro and his wife will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts.”

Bondi praised President Trump and the military, stating, “Thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco traffickers.”

Maduro is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center, near other high-profile inmates.

He stands before a judge on Monday, with his attorneys claiming he holds sovereign protection as a foreign head of state.

Still, former officials point out the U.S. does not view Maduro as Venezuela’s rightful leader because of a rigged election in 2024.

Retired prosecutor Dick Gregorie said, “There’s no claim to sovereign immunity if we don’t recognize him as head of state.”

Maduro and his wife now face the court, with America’s eyes on justice being served.
