January 1, Lawler Criticizes FBI Alleged Political Bias
Republican Mike Lawler from New York had some strong words about the FBI and Department of Justice on CNN. He thinks they’ve been used for politics instead of justice. This all came up when Kasie Hunt asked if Kash Patel, Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, was planning to go after Trump’s political opponents.
Donald Trump picked Patel to lead the FBI, saying he wants to take the agency in a new direction. Lawler said that American folks aren’t looking for revenge, but if someone did something wrong while on the job, they should be worried. He says the goal is to fix the DOJ and FBI so they focus on real criminals.
Lawler talked about how, in recent years, the FBI and DOJ seem to have been used for political reasons, which isn’t fair to Americans at all. It’s causing folks to lose trust in justice. He hopes that with people like Pam Bondi and Kash Patel leading these agencies, they can get back to serving the people properly.
Kasie Hunt asked if Patel is the right guy for making sure the FBI stays neutral. Lawler pointed out that under Christopher Wray, the FBI went after Trump, but nothing serious came of it. Lawler says Trump talked about this problem a lot during the election, and people voted for him because they agree something needs to change.
Lawler isn’t worried about the FBI being political. He says that the DOJ and FBI have been used against people like Trump, especially with people like New York’s Attorney General, Letitia James, who openly went after him. According to Lawler, the justice system needs to stay out of politics. Under Biden, Lawler thinks things have gotten worse, and that’s not right.
Trump has been vocal about how he thinks the FBI has been out to get him. During the Republican primaries, almost all GOP candidates, except Chris Christie, supported firing Wray. Trump’s big plan if he’s president again is to clean up these agencies by firing corrupt officials and getting rid of political bias.
Wyatt Matters!
The FBI and Department of Justice should be fair and just for everyone. There’s a big problem when people start thinking that these agencies are being used like tools for politics. When this happens, folks lose their trust, which is really important for justice. If they don’t trust these agencies, then they might stop believing that everyone gets a fair chance. Everyone in America wants to know that the rules will be the same for everybody, no matter who they are or who they know.
Some people are worried about politics getting mixed into justice, which isn’t right. When leaders like Trump pick people such as Kash Patel to lead the FBI, they hope to change how things have been going. They want the FBI and DOJ to focus on real criminals, not political games. If someone did something wrong, they should be worried, but not if they’re just on the opposite political team. This change is about making sure these agencies work for the people, not against them.
Choosing leaders who will keep politics out of justice can help fix this. Many folks agree that something needs to change so these important agencies can do their jobs better. If the FBI and DOJ can stay really fair, everyone can feel safe knowing justice is served right. It’s important for leaders to focus on this goal, so everyone can trust the system again.
