January 1, Iran’s Threats and Missile Strikes Rattle the West

Iran sits in Southwest Asia and tightly follows Shia Islam. Its leaders are known for their hardline rule and support for terrorism.

The United States has labeled Iran as a top terror sponsor since 1984. Iran supports dangerous groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. The regime threatened U.S. leaders, placing bounties on President Trump and former government officials after a U.S. strike killed Qassem Soleimani, a notorious Iranian general linked to hundreds of American deaths.

Iran keeps pushing its nuclear weapons program, breaking agreements and seeking banned technology. President Trump quit the 2015 nuclear deal and punished Iran with tough sanctions during his time in office.

On June 13, 2025, Israel attacked Iran’s nuclear sites. The U.S. then hit three more Iranian nuclear facilities in Operation Midnight Hammer. Iran fired at least 14 missiles at a U.S. base in Qatar as payback for these strikes.

President Trump said, after Operation Midnight Hammer, “the U.S. military completed a very successful strike against Iranian nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan with six bunker buster bombs.” Trump’s national intelligence director confirmed Iran’s nuclear facilities were destroyed.
