Iran’s military regime made a dangerous claim on Saturday that puts American servicemembers at risk and threatens to blow up the fragile peace in the Middle East. The Islamic Republic says it struck U.S. forces stationed in the region.

The Revolutionary Guards — Iran’s elite military force loyal to the ayatollahs — announced they had targeted American military positions. At the same time, Tehran’s foreign ministry tried to flip the script, accusing the United States of violating the ceasefire agreement between the two nations.

This provocative move follows recent U.S. retaliatory strikes conducted around the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway that’s critical for global oil shipments. About one-fifth of the world’s petroleum passes through that choke point.

The timing couldn’t be worse for regional stability. Just when tensions seemed to be cooling down, Iran’s hardline regime decided to poke the bear and risk American lives.

Iran has a long history of attacking U.S. forces through proxies and direct confrontation. Their Revolutionary Guards have been designated a terrorist organization by previous administrations for good reason.

The regime in Tehran continues to play a double game — talking peace while planning attacks. They accuse America of breaking agreements while they launch strikes against our troops who are deployed to protect vital shipping lanes and regional allies.
