January 1, Interstate Crime Wave Hits Small Town as Police Crack Down on Distraction Thefts

Published

St. George, a peaceful town in Utah, has become the most recent setting for a national crime wave known as “distraction thefts.” These heinous acts are carried out by transient, itinerant criminals known as “interstate crime groups” that hop from state to state, committing petty thefts before moving on to avoid detection. These criminals are often found to be affiliated with Romanian and South American crime rings.

In the past year alone, St. George has noted 37 instances of distraction thefts happening in grocery stores, local businesses and eateries, according to Sgt. Zack Bahlmann from the St. George Police Department.

These criminals, usually operating in groups of two or three, enter businesses and identify a victim with an easily accessible purse or wallet, usually in a shopping cart. While one distracts the victim with a seemingly innocent inquiry, another seizes the opportunity to snatch something from their cart, explained Sgt. Bahlmann.

In a recent breakthrough in addressing this crime trend, a trio of Colombian nationals, Jairo Gavida-Monroy, 37, Andres Fabian Villanueva-Rodriguez, 32, and an unidentified man, were arrested after a string of such thefts, thanks to an extensive investigation conducted by St. George law enforcement in coordination with state and federal agencies.

The trio, who had been seen stealing a woman’s purse from her shopping cart at a home improvement store, managed to charge nearly $1,200 at a retail store in the same shopping complex using the victim’s bank cards. Their spree continued at a nearby pharmacy where they purchased over a thousand dollars’ worth of goods. Then, they targeted a second victim and managed to charge a total of $9,450 across both victims’ bank cards before they were apprehended.

The criminals were finally caught in Wisconsin months later, after information about their crimes was shared with Homeland Security and agencies across several states.

This story exemplifies the increasingly prevalent interstate nature of crime in the U.S. Criminals, often with foreign affiliations, are exploiting America’s vastness and the resolute nature of smaller towns like St. George. The law enforcement agencies across the country must stay vigilant and work collaboratively to track and apprehend these transient criminals.

These criminals may believe that smaller cities like St. George are easy picks, but they fail to realize that these American towns are not as lax on crime as some places, like California. Utah takes a hard line on crime, and such outlaws should beware.

The police in St. George are considering the establishment of a task force dedicated to combating these interstate crime rings and have been working hard to ensure that criminals face justice. Sgt. Bahlmann believes that the fast and significant penalties will act as a deterrent.

This series of events underlines the importance of strong border control and a more robust law enforcement network that can track and apprehend criminals across state lines, ensuring that American citizens are protected from such interstate and international crime rings.

We can all thank the Biden-Harris administration for this, and it will only get worse if Harris is elected in November.

It doesn’t help that Salt Lake City is trying to actively figure out a way to pay for these homeless immigrants to stick around instead of send them packing on their way. You don’t help change people’s lives by being an enabler and giving them free heating gas and places to stay. They’re coming into the states through the Amtrak train system and smaller towns like St George will continue to suffer until Salt Lake and other states takes Vagrancy more seriously and says NO More to bad policy from California.

Let’s see. They are homeless, or illegal immigrants. Let’s give a big thank you to Joe Biden and his moronic liberal Democratic followers for this crime wave.
