January 1, Illegal Arrivals Surge, Protests Erupt In Britain
Wyatt’s Take
- Illegal crossings into the UK have hit record highs this year.
- British citizens are taking to the streets in protest against unchecked immigration.
- World leaders, including President Trump, are sounding the alarm on border failures.
Britain is facing a massive wave of illegal immigration, with authorities saying over 25,000 migrants have already crossed into the country this year. Just last week, nearly 900 people arrived by boat in a single day—an all-time high that has left folks in towns like Dover and beyond feeling angry and worried for their communities.
According to the British Home Office, illegal crossings have jumped 73% from last year. Numbers like these are hard for most people in Middle America to imagine. “On immigration, you better get your act together,” warned President Trump during a recent visit to Scotland. “You’re not going to have Europe anymore.”
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage posted a video showing the new arrivals and didn’t mince words about the cost. “898 illegals crossed the English Channel yesterday,” Farage wrote on X. “This means more hotels, more costs and more people who should not be here. The public have had ENOUGH!”

Prime Minister Keir Starmer claims his government is cracking down by freezing the assets of overseas gang leaders and sending 35,000 people home, but a lot of Brits just don’t believe politicians will fix the problem. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said the latest UK-France deal “will not even make a dent” in the crisis.
Now, as more migrants arrive from places like Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Poland, and China, British towns are being forced to house them in hotels. This has fired up huge anti-immigration protests, with over a thousand people marching in Waterlooville waving UK flags and holding signs that said “Stop the Boats.”
Back in Epping, there were even clashes between folks for and against more migration outside hotels being used for new arrivals. Tensions have spilled over into Ireland too, where rival protests have broken out over immigration in Dublin. One side blamed the government, while the other wore hats saying “Make Ireland Great Again.”
UFC fighter Conor McGregor is now running for president of Ireland, making immigration one of his top causes. He’s been making headlines for standing up to the open-border crowd, even as he faces his own controversies.
Wyatt Matters
What’s happening in Britain and across Europe is a warning for America, too. When leaders ignore the will of the people and fail to secure their borders, regular folks pay the price—higher taxes, unsafe neighborhoods, and a loss of national identity. Standing up for our communities and protecting what makes a country strong shouldn’t be controversial. It’s just common sense, and it’s what Middle America’s always believed in.
