Wyatt’s Take

  • House will vote on releasing Epstein documents next week.
  • Bipartisan petition forced action after enough signatures.
  • Democrats and Republicans clashed over process on House floor.

Speaker Mike Johnson said the House is set to vote next week on making Jeffrey Epstein’s files public. The vote comes after lawmakers from both parties signed a petition forcing the issue to the floor.

Arizona Rep. Adelita Grijalva became the final signer after being sworn in Wednesday. Rep. Nancy Mace and other Republicans joined her in supporting the petition.

The petition does not immediately release the files. Instead, it requires every lawmaker to show where they stand on the matter.

Johnson shared his frustration with reporters about Democrats delaying a vote earlier in the day.

“As soon as the discharge petition received the 218th signature, we brought it up on unanimous consent, and that would, as you know, make it — would get it through the process immediately,” Johnson said. “The Democrats shockingly opposed it. So it was a staggering level of hypocrisy.”

He added, “I think some of them regretted it, because within about a half hour of that, there was a lot of confusion, and some of them claim that they did not object, but they did, and that’s what happened on the floor. So we’re going to put that on the floor for a full vote next week, soon as we get back.”

Rep. Tim Burchett called for unanimous consent on the Epstein Transparency Act, but was blocked by Rep. Steve Womack for not having the right clearances.

The latest push came soon after Republicans released thousands of pages from Epstein’s estate and Democrats unveiled Epstein emails mentioning President Trump.

This vote will finally put every lawmaker on record about the Epstein files. Stay tuned for what comes next.
