January 1, House Impeaches DHS Secretary Mayorkas by One Vote

In a razor-thin victory, the U.S. House voted 214-213 to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday. This comes after multiple failed attempts to pass the resolution.

The impeachment resolution was originally introduced by Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Back in November, the House voted to refer articles of impeachment against Mayorkas to committee. However, the House did not end up voting on the legislation, as eight Republicans voted with Democrats to refer the resolution to committee, resulting in a 209-201 vote.

In early February, the resolution failed to pass the House in a 214-216 vote. During that vote, four Republicans joined Democrats in opposing the impeachment of Mayorkas.
