Wyatt’s Take

  • Republicans are backing down on fighting Obamacare subsidies.
  • A so-called bipartisan plan would keep Biden-era tax credits alive.
  • Their failure to deliver real health care reform is embarrassing.

Republicans in the House are giving up ground on the Obamacare fight and letting Democrats push for an extension of government health care subsidies.

The new plan, led by Democrats and a few Republicans, would stretch out these costly tax credits yet again even though they were supposed to end this year.

Jeff Van Drew, who flipped parties, claims these subsidies are bad but says we have no choice but to keep them so folks don’t lose coverage.

He is pushing a two-part vote scheme for more changes down the road.

The problem is,

“bridge”

plan just keeps kicking the can down the road without a real fix for our broken health system.

Republican leaders like Steve Scalise have already said this bill won’t go far, but the fact some in the GOP want to keep helping Democrats is a big letdown for heartland voters who’ve heard promises for years.

Time and again, these politicians talk tough about repealing Obamacare, but when the moment comes, they blink and pass up a chance for real change.

Holding Washington accountable takes all of us.
