January 1, House Democrats Balk at Charlie Kirk Tribute

Wyatt’s Take

  • Over 120 House Democrats refused to back a resolution honoring Charlie Kirk.
  • The Senate showed rare bipartisan agreement for a similar honor.
  • Democrat leaders voiced strong objections to Kirk’s legacy.

The House passed a resolution to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk; however, more than 120 Democrats either voted against, abstained, or stayed silent on the measure. Only 95 Democrats gave their support, even though the final tally resulted in a strong majority of 310 votes in favor.

On Friday, 58 Democrats voted no, 38 voted present, and 26 did not show up for the vote. In contrast, a separate vote on government funding saw almost every Democrat participate, showing this divide was unique to the Kirk resolution.

The Senate unanimously passed a similar resolution just days earlier. The Senate’s version, though, was shorter and did not include as much detail as the House version.

Some Democrats explained their opposition on the House floor.

“While I condemn his violent murder, this resolution sought to elevate Charlie Kirk as a role model. I could not support in good conscience,” said Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss.

Other Democrats simply said they disagreed with Kirk’s views, so they didn’t back the measure.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., claimed the resolution brings “great pain to the millions of Americans who endured segregation, Jim Crow, and the legacy of that bigotry today.”

Kirk was assassinated at a Turning Point USA event on a college campus on September 10.

If you think politicians should put aside differences to honor victims, share your take with friends or neighbors.

Many in heartland communities believe respect for life cuts across politics. Too often in Washington, partisanship trumps simple decency, leaving ordinary Americans shaking their heads.

Totally disgusting. These unamerican democrats should be removed as lawmakers. I am Jewish and thought the tribute was very touching.

It pisses me off that they feel it’s OK to kill Charlie for what he said but they feel it’s a travesty to fire Jimmy Kimmel for what he said. SICK BASTARDS

No surprise. These democrats are a virtue-less, slandering, sucker punching, kick-em while they are down mentality, lying, criminal protecting, above the law, arrogant, selfish, money wasting, strutting, racist, honorless, conscienceless, police hating, group of hate mongering, dung flinging hypocrites. They are a festering sore like aids, which will not heal, that grabs onto the ignorant and fights, pushes and shoves to get in front of the camera and will jump the line in front of anyone who will permit or that they are larger than. They will steal the baseball from a 5 year old child who caught it at the game.
