January 1, Horror on Southwest Airlines Flight as Flames Erupt from Engine [Video]

A terrifying scene unfolded on a Southwest Airlines flight as passengers witnessed flames erupting from one of the plane’s engines.
The incident, captured on video, occurred shortly after Flight 307 took off from William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, heading for Cancun, Mexico.
The unsettling video showcases flames bursting out of the aircraft’s right engine, leaving passengers shocked and fearful for their safety.
One particularly distressed passenger, Coale Kalisek, recounted his harrowing experience to KHOU.
“All I know is it started swinging like left to right, and I thought, I’ve been on a lot of flights,” said Kalisek, a frequent flyer who instantly recognized the abnormality.
Upon noticing the engine’s flames, he thought, “I’m thinking damn, it’s gonna go down.”

Addressing the alarming incident, Southwest Airlines released a statement, explaining that the flight was promptly returned to the airport due to “a potential mechanical issue.”
They assured that “the aircraft landed safely and was taken out of service.”
In order to continue the journey to Cancun, the airline arranged for a different aircraft. They also expressed gratitude towards their customers for their patience during the situation.
Despite Southwest’s efforts to rectify the situation, the traumatic experience left a deep impact on some passengers.
Kalisek, along with his girlfriend, chose not to continue their journey to Cancun, forgoing the thousands of dollars they had spent on the trip.
Instead, they decided to drive 200 miles back to San Antonio in a rented car.

I’d have been scared to death also. If I’m ever in a situation like that, I’d probably never fly again. However, I think Southwest
has a good reputation for safety. Thankful there were no injuries.

Flying is safer than driving? True?

As a retired pilot with 40 years of flying, I have to say, things like this happen from time to time as a seal or bearing fails and causes an engine to be on fire. I had two of these happen in my 40 years. SW did the right thing and I have to say flying from one place to another is safer than driving your car from those same two places. I have over 28,000 hours of flight time that makes me travel over 12 Million Miles in my life time and always got my passengers home safely.
The airlines need GOOD QUALIFIED pilots today and so you that are young, get yourself headed to an excellent carrier by being one of them. Be good and be safe. Blessings to all

This is the reason I don’t even stand on my bed. I was in aircraft manufacturing and retired from it and I also know that everything safe is ad mistered into an aircraft that is safe by all manufactures BUT,,,,,so is automobiles and there is always that one time and your on it.

I remember a story long ago where an airplane mechanic who checked the plane before embarking on their journey, did a quick go-over of the airplane and told the captain that all was well. The captain was not assured by his quick check-over and told him if he (the mechanic) thought that his check-over of the plane was adequate, he wanted the mechanic to go on the flight that he just gave the go-ahead on. The mechanic refused and another mechanic was requested to do the safety check.

This is really terrifying. Don’t they check these planes and the components e.g. engines etc? If the planes are old or questionable, take them out of service and don’t risk peoples’ lives. This is not against Southwest. I fly Southwest and it is my favorite airline. It is against the entire industry and their due diligence or lack thereof.
