January 1, Homan Plans ICE Surge After Minnesota Success

Wyatt’s Take
- Tom Homan promises tougher action in sanctuary cities after progress in Minnesota.
- ICE agents will stay to back up local law enforcement against agitators.
- Border enforcement won’t stop because of Washington gridlock.
The White House Border Czar, Tom Homan, says he wants to step up immigration enforcement in sanctuary cities. He pointed to Minnesota as proof that tough action works and hopes other places take notice.
“The number of agents depends on the situation on the ground,” Homan said. “How many known criminal targets are out there, because we know we have a problem with sanctuary cities, because we know they’re releasing public safety threats to the public.”
Homan told news outlets it’s safer if sanctuary cities hold illegal immigrants for ICE, instead of forcing agents to chase them down on the street. He believes more cities should let federal officers into local jails.
He said, “I’m hoping other sanctuary cities look at what happened in Minnesota, and how we got to the place we’re at, which I think is a good place. I hope more people pay attention to that, and we work with these states to let our officers in the jails.”
While not listing cities by name, he highlighted a Department of Justice list of over 1,000 sanctuary cities, like Chicago, that make it harder to get violent criminals off the streets.
Homan shared that most immigration officers have left Minnesota now, but a key group will remain to protect agents and respond if trouble kicks up. “There will be a small security force called RQs that will respond when our soldiers are out and get surrounded by agitators and things get out of control. They will remain for a short period of time just to make sure that the coordination, the agreements we have with state and local law enforcement stays in place and they respond to a public safety threat when needed.”
He made it clear that threats from politicians in Washington, including talk of a government freeze, won’t slow ICE. Homan said in a TV interview, “Not one bit.” Deportations and law enforcement operations will continue as usual.
Even Hillary Clinton admitted recently that mass illegal immigration has caused problems, saying, “There’s a legitimate reason to have a debate about things like migration. It went too far. It’s been disruptive and destabilizing, and it needs to be fixed in a humane way, secure borders that don’t torture and kill people.”
Middle America folks deserve safe neighborhoods and confidence that laws will be followed. As leaders argue in D.C., the men and women on the ground will keep doing their job to protect every family.
Wyatt Matters
Law enforcement should have the backing they need to keep our towns safe. Letting criminals walk free makes life harder for working families and honest folks.
