Wyatt’s Take

  • Rep. Mary Miller is pushing a bill to protect girls’ sports and spaces.
  • The measure reaffirms that sex means male or female, based on biology.
  • It would tie federal school funding to keeping separate facilities for each sex.

Representative Mary Miller is introducing a bill that ties the definition of sex in schools directly to biology, as either male or female. She’s doing this to protect girls’ sports, locker rooms, and privacy from what many see as efforts to blur those lines.

Her legislation, the “Safety and Opportunity for Girls Act,” comes on the 105th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Miller wants to stop the changes Democrats are pushing that let men compete in girls’ sports and access their spaces.

“The Left is erasing decades of progress for women by forcing girls to compete and share private spaces with men. We cannot let this continue,” she said in a statement. “On the 105th anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment, my bill will secure Title IX’s original purpose of protecting biological girls’ sports, privacy, and opportunities.”

The bill arms public schools with the legal right to keep sex-segregated bathrooms, sports, and private areas. It says schools must keep separate spaces to keep their federal funding, and defines male and female only by biology, not feelings or identity.

Several Republicans have signed on, including Reps. Nancy Mace, Diana Harshbarger, Ben Cline, Tim Burchett, Lauren Boebert, Glenn Grothman, and Sheri Biggs. Miller’s effort echoes an executive order under President Trump, which separated ‘sex’ from ‘gender identity’ and committed to stick with biological definitions in federal policy.

The proposal lines up with groups like Concerned Women for America, Moms for America, and Parents Defending Education. It also states the Department of Education can’t pull federal money just because schools want to keep sex-specific spaces.

“I rise today in defense of women.”

This comes after Miller introduced another bill in March to ban men from competing in girls’ events and protect female-only spaces in schools. Any public school that takes away those protections could lose federal support.

If you want girls to compete on a level playing field and keep their privacy, this bill might be what our country needs. Stay alert and see how lawmakers stand on this issue—they need to hear from parents and voters alike.
