Wyatt’s Take

  • Giuliani’s old team is throwing support behind Democrat Andrew Cuomo instead of the Republican candidate.
  • Former top aides say Curtis Sliwa doesn’t have the numbers to win and fear a socialist could take over City Hall.
  • Major voices warn that putting a Democrat with a business record in charge is better than risking radical policies.

Some of Rudy Giuliani’s closest advisors are standing with Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayor race, turning their backs on the Republican, Curtis Sliwa.

Joe Lhota, who worked under Giuliani and once ran for mayor as a Republican, is siding with Cuomo, calling him a proven leader.

“It’s a choice between a proven manager, a socialist, and a fruit loop,” Lhota said plainly.

He added, “Of course I’m going to be with Andrew.”

Anthony Carbonetti, another trusted Giuliani aide, called Sliwa a “great New Yorker” but warned he can’t win—only split the vote. Carbonetti said he fears City Hall could end up run by radical socialists controlling billions in city spending.

“I don’t want a socialist in charge of a $116 billion city budget,” Carbonetti said, blasting free bus proposals as bad for the city.

Former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey also publicly endorsed Cuomo, saying he is “the most viable alternative.”

“Our city should not be put at risk of irreversible damage, which it would be if Mamdani is elected,” Mukasey wrote.

With Eric Adams not running again, and former President Trump doubting Sliwa’s chances, Cuomo could benefit—if he wins over conservatives and independents.

Polls show Mamdani, the socialist candidate, leading with about 20 points, but that could change if voters rally behind Cuomo.

Stay up to date and keep an eye on who’s really putting New York City working people first.
