Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has made a big decision to take away retired Gen. Mark Milley’s security detail and security clearance. This happened after some people said Milley wasn’t following the chain of command during President Trump’s first term.

A bunch of important people in the government told Fox News that the Pentagon is also taking down Milley’s second portrait, so his picture won’t be in the building anymore. They’ve even made a new review board to see if there’s enough proof that Milley tried to mess up the chain of command.

One official said, “There’s a new era of accountability in the Defense Department under President Trump’s leadership—and that’s exactly what the American people expect.” The first picture of Milley was taken down right after President Joe Biden gave him a pardon before leaving office.

Milley got extra security because Iran made threats after the U.S. did a drone strike against General Qasem Soleimani in 2020. Other big officials like John Bolton and Mike Pompeo had extra security too because of Iranian threats. But after President Trump came in, these extra security details were taken away, and some Republican lawmakers were worried about that.

Sen. Tom Cotton from Arkansas, who’s the boss of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said he hoped President Trump would think again about the decision. He wants John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, and Brian Hook, who worked on important national security stuff, to be safe.

Milley, who was the Army’s chief of staff and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly talked about his worries with President Trump during a March 2023 conversation. In Bob Woodward’s book “War,” Gen. Milley said he thought Trump was “fascist to the core!”

Another book, “Peril” by Woodward and Robert Costa, said that Milley called his Chinese counterpart twice during Trump’s first term. He wanted to keep peace between the two nuclear countries.
