January 1, First-Time Gun Owners Skyrocket: 22.3M Americans Arm Themselves
The number of Americans becoming first-time gun owners has skyrocketed over the past four years, according to a press release from the National Sports Shooting Foundation (NSSF). In fact, since 2020, the number of first-time gun owners has grown to over 22.3 million people, equal to the population of Florida.
The NSSF attributes the rapid increase in gun ownership to various factors. These include COVID-era lockdown measures, soft-on-crime prosecutors, and rising violent crime rates.
Chris Cheng, a competitive shooting champion who testified before Congress on the matter, stated, “The past year-and-a-half or so with COVID-19 has been a pressure cooker.” He added, “When you couple that with calls to defund the police and taking law enforcement officers off the street, it makes citizens like me less safe.”
Cheng continued, “If I can’t have law enforcement there, then it is a rational conclusion that individual citizens like myself would opt to utilize my Second Amendment right to purchase a firearm and use that firearm in lawful and legal self-defense.”
An NBC News national poll released in November 2023 found that more than 52% of American voters indicated that they or someone in their home owns a firearm. Additionally, researchers discovered that 48% of firearm owners were concerned the government would not take enough action to restrict access to firearms.
On the other hand, 47% worried that the state would go too far in regulating guns.

How ironic does it get? The very same people who are directly responsible for the rise in the need for gun ownership are the same people who fight hardest against gun ownership. Consider that calls to defund the police which result in fewer LEOs on the streets, along with soft-on-crime prosecutors, and the rise in violent crime are all the result of liberals at work. Add the fear, isolation, loss of income, high death rate, and all the other horrible results of the COVID scare plus the rules which Fauci now admits were made up, and look what we have. I have to wonder how many of those first-time gun owners are liberals who argue against gun ownership for the rest of us even though it is they who are directly responsible for all the unrest and lawlessness in our country. Congratulations to the biggest gun-haters: Biden for being the 2nd president who was responsible for a huge increase in gun sales and to Hillary for causing a spike in gun sales just for being on the ballot. Sure makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
