January 1, FBI Eyes More J6 Bomb Plots After Arrest

The FBI is now investigating whether the man caught for planting bombs near the Capitol before the Jan. 6 riots was linked to other threats.

They want to know if he had more targets, worked with anyone else, or was part of a bigger network.

FBI Director Kash Patel said

“What we want to ensure is is there a bigger network? Are there other targets? Were there other targets? Are there other unsolved crimes?”

Investigators are using phone records, credit card data, and license plate photos to dig deeper.

They arrested Bryan Cole, 30, of Woodbridge, Virginia, and now plan to keep him from causing more harm and to hold him responsible for the threats against Americans.

Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino replaced the earlier team in charge of this nearly five-year-old case.

Patel argued that the previous FBI leaders didn’t use all available tools to solve it.

“They had it for four years on the pipe bomb. They chose not to apply the resources and investigative techniques they could have. We changed that ethos, and in eight months, we’re sitting here today,”

he explained.

Patel criticized the prior FBI regime, saying

“It’s either sheer incompetence or negligence by the prior administration, and either way, it’s unacceptable for this FBI.”
