Federal agents broke up a plan for a Halloween attack in Michigan, linking it to an Islamic preacher in Dearborn known for extremist views.

A teen conspirator followed this preacher online and contacted his father for advice about when to strike, the FBI says.

The Department of Justice charged two Michigan men over the planned assault, describing weapons, tactical gear, and a focused attack plan.

The FBI complaint describes how the teen and others plotted and discussed the attack.

Some suspects were not charged yet, according to the filings.

Ahmad Musa Jibril, the preacher at the center, was previously tied to other cases of ISIS support and funding schemes.

He was recorded saying

“there will be a time when Muslims will dismantle the cross and burn the Christmas trees in the lands … they liberate.”

Jibril and his father have a criminal history tied to money laundering.

Both have promoted radical ideas online.

The FBI said the teen engaged with Jibril’s online content and consulted his father about doing a

“good deed,”

which was code for the attack.

Authorities warned that the preacher’s father urged the act be carried out without delay, but an associate later claimed he wasn’t aware of the plot specifics.

Other jihadists in New York were also influenced by this same preacher before their arrest on terrorism charges in past years.
