  • New York’s governor faced sharp criticism for pardoning an illegal migrant convicted of manslaughter.
  • The move sparked outrage from Homeland Security, demanding criminal aliens be deported.
  • Critics argue such decisions put American safety at risk.

The Homeland Security Department spoke out after New York Governor Kathy Hochul pardoned Somchith Vatthanavong, an illegal migrant convicted of manslaughter as a teen. The pardon aimed to prevent his deportation.

Vatthanavong has a record that includes manslaughter and firearm charges. He shot a man in Brooklyn during a pool hall fight, claiming it was self-defense.

“@GovKathyHochul, your shameful secret is out,” the DHS posted on X. “Rather than putting New Yorkers first, you’re protecting a criminal illegal alien KILLER with a rap sheet including convictions for manslaughter and criminal possession of a firearm.”

Supporters of Hochul’s decision argue it lets Vatthanavong stay in the country, but federal officials see this as a threat to public safety. The DHS post also declared, “If you are a convicted criminal alien, you should not have the privilege to be in this country.”

They further stated President Trump and his allies will keep working to remove dangerous criminals from America.

Let your neighbors know: our safety ought to come first, not politics. Keep an eye on who your leaders are really working for.
